➝ Sam says yes to Lucifer. Eventually, Lucifer tries to bring Castiel over to his side.It starts with conversations in the mirror: Castiel talking to Sam’s reflection, Sam answering with borrowed words, borrowed inflections. It isn’t really Sam, Cas knows, who stands beside him while he cleans his wounds at the cracked sink, not really Sam who watches his blood swirl down the drain.
“These humans have made you their soldier,” Lucifer says. “They have given you their cause, their words. They even lend you their drugs. How did it happen, Castiel?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know?” Castiel deflects.
He still isn’t sure if this a hallucination or the real thing. Maybe he’ll never decide to be sure. He could reach out a hand easily, touch the sleeve of Sam’s dusty jacket for proof of either case, but he doesn’t. Day after day, Castiel doesn’t. Instead, he focuses on the agony that comes with falling, and on how the pills blur the pain.
“I’m here to help you.” Lucifer crouches next to his bed, where he tosses feverish. Sam’s voice is sympathetic. “To free you.”
